BATON ROUGE, La., March 20th—Brown & Root Industrial Services, LLC today announced that 2 of its employees earned top honors at the 2023 National Craft Championships at Associated Builders and Contractors Convention in Orlando, Florida, on March 17. The 34th annual competition showcased the skills and expertise of nearly 200 of the nation’s top-performing craft professionals.
Justin Howard of Deer Park, Texas took home the silver medal in the millwright competition with Anthony Robert of Ama, Louisiana securing a bronze medal finish in the pipe welding competition. Howard received an additional award for demonstrating outstanding safety throughout the competition.
“We are proud of the skill and commitment to safety demonstrated by Justin and Anthony at the NCC,” said Brown & Root chief executive officer Andy Dupuy. “Both competitors represented Brown & Root well and will play an important role in the future of our industry. Our team is fortunate to employ such talented craft professionals.”
The NCC featured the nation’s top-performing craft professionals, including carpenters, electricians, pipefitters, plumbers, welders and more, all vying for top honors in 16 competitions with skills on display in 12 crafts. NCC also featured a team competition with journey-level craft professionals from different crafts working to complete a joint project. The competition included a two-hour online exam and a six-hour practical performance test.

Established in 1987, the National Craft Championships celebrate and recognize upskilling in construction, draw some of the country’s most talented craft professionals and highlight the important role that craft skills training plays in the construction industry.
